1 CSA SEASON • 5 FARMS • 16 WEEKLY EPISODES • 30+ RECIPES
Each week, Just Picked introduced the featured CSA, the purveyors, their challenges, successes and the harvesting of the weekly share. This plentiful pile of raw ingredients was then transformed into individual meals to be enjoyed the same day or saved for a later date. Techniques and vegetables that were a challenge in the past are now exchanged for: a first successful deboned chicken stuffed with kale and garlic; the buzz of a booming minestrone soup; a triumphant raw summer squash Carpaccio; a defrosted grass-fed beef stew to brighten any cold winter night, just to name a few.
The journey to a healthier lifestyle, a diet of fresher, unprocessed food, and a revitalized local-food economy, starts on the farm and in the kitchen.
WHAT IS A CSA?
Community-supported agriculture or CSA, is a local based economic model for agriculture and food distribution. Purveyors and consumers share in the risks and rewards of food production. CSA members purchase a share of the upcoming harvest at the onset of the growing season; once harvest begins they receive weekly deliveries or pickups of locally-grown, freshly harvested produce.
